Frequently Asked Questions
Is it legal to scrape Facebook groups?
Scraping publicly available data for personal research, competitive analysis, or legitimate business purposes is generally permitted. However, you should:
- Review Facebook's Terms of Service
- Only scrape public groups or groups where you have legitimate membership
- Use data responsibly and in compliance with privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA)
- Never scrape for harassment, spam, or malicious purposes
When in doubt, consult with a legal professional about your specific use case.
How many posts can I scrape?
Free plan: Up to 50 posts per session, limited sessions per month
Paid plans: Unlimited posts with faster extraction speeds and priority support
The actual number of posts available depends on the group's activity and Facebook's content loading.
What export formats are supported?
InsightSocial supports three export formats:
- CSV — Universal format, works with any spreadsheet application
- Excel (.xlsx) — Native Excel format with proper formatting
- JSON — Structured data format for developers and automation
Does it work with private groups?
Yes! If you're a member of a private group, InsightSocial can extract posts from it. The extension accesses data through your logged-in Facebook session, so you'll only see content you have permission to view.
You cannot scrape private groups you're not a member of.
Can I scrape group member lists?
Currently, InsightSocial focuses on extracting post content and engagement data. Member list extraction is on our product roadmap for future releases.
How fast is the scraping process?
Speed depends on several factors:
- Your internet connection speed
- Facebook's server response time
- Number of posts requested
Typically, you can extract 100 posts in 1-2 minutes. Larger extractions may take longer.
Is my data stored on your servers?
No. All data processing happens locally in your browser. InsightSocial does not store, transmit, or have access to the content you extract. Your data stays on your device until you export it.
What if a post has images or videos?
InsightSocial captures media URLs for posts containing images or videos. You'll get direct links to the media files that you can download separately if needed.
Can I schedule automatic scraping?
Yes! Paid plans include scheduling features. Set up recurring scrapes to automatically collect new posts from your target groups on a daily, weekly, or custom schedule.
